About the Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk

The Ashby Santa Fun Run and Walk was a brand new event for 2015 organised by the Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle. Following a hugely successful first 5 years, we had the battle of Covid-19 to contend with in 2020 but we countered this with an online Santa Fun Workout to replace our traditional event which raised much needed funds to help support Ashby Foodbank. We were delighted to bring the event back in it's more traditional style in 2021 where it was another huge success and we've continued with this format again since. We continued our post covid recovery last year, with over 900 entries, amazing support from everybody. We're very much looking forward to smashing back through the 1000 barrier again at this years event so thank you to all who support us again in this aim! Thanks to the support of all of our entrants and the fabulous businesses who sponsored us, we raised just under £11000 for charity in 2023 and have raised over £90000 since the event started in 2015.

The 2024 event will take place on Sunday 1st December 2024. Once again, our aim is to provide a fun, family friendly Christmas event to raise money for nominated local charities. We have decided to support 3 main charities again this year as we hope to be able to continue to rely on the amazing support of the people of Ashby and surrounding areas to raise the fantastic amounts of money that we have achieved in previous years. Our 3 main chosen charities are again all local and we can confirm for the 2024 event we will support Rainbows Childrens Hospice, Loros Hospice, Staunton Harold Sailability Trust along with other charities supported by Rotary. We look forward to working with them all to make this years event a fantastic spectacle and to raise some much needed funds for them all! The main point to stress is that this event is a fun run AND walk and is therefore suitable for all ages and levels of ability. This is very much a Fun Run and Walk and is suitable for all.

The event will involve all entrants dressing up in Christmas fancy dress and then running or walking around the pre-defined course. With regards to peoples outfits it really is anything goes. Whether you want to go with a basic Christmas jumper or really go to town with full Santa suits, reindeer suits or a wacky colourful suit to try and out-do our event compere, the choice is yours. We do love to see lots of Christmas colour to paint the town of Ashby a festive hue if possible! In line with people providing their own suits we have once again kept to our previous entry fee of just £7 per person, with discounts on this available for family and larger groups.  We'll have some spot prizes for your fancy dress efforts also across a number of categories! We do have a small stock of Santa suits available for £5 and we'll be selling these off on our stall in Market Street in the lead up to Christmas.  The course will be over a distance of 3km and will be around the town of Ashby de la Zouch, starting on the Bath Grounds at 11:00 am. The route followed will be relatively flat and suitable for children and pushchairs/buggies although please bear in mind that it may be a little bumpy in places. A map of the route is available on this website. We will also be providing a fun warm up before the fun run starts! Entrants should arrive on the Bath Grounds around 10:30 if you wish to enter the Christmas fancy dress competition with the fun warm up starting around 10:45 and the main event starting at 11:00.

Entry in advance of the day is recommended to guarantee a place as we can only accomodate 1500 entrants to avoid bottlenecks and overcrowding so once all places are sold then we will close entries even if it's before the official closing date. We did sell out in our 2019 event so it's worth entering sooner rather than later. The easiest way to enter is by completing the form on this website and paying through PayPal via a debit or credit card of your choice. Once this simple form is completed and submitted along with payment, you will be sent an email confirmation of your entry to the event followed later by details such as where to pick your entry number up from, arrival time and instructions for the day. A paper entry form is also available on the website with payment able to be submitted by cheque, however an email address is required to enable us to contact you with joining instructions and confirmation of entry. Entry will open in October with confirmed details announce closer to the time.

Entry to this event is now standardised for both children and adults at just £7 per person or £25 for a family of 4. The entry fee includes your entry number, chocolate bar for all and a medal upon completion of the fun run and walk. Profits from this event will be split with the majority going to our 3 main supported charities with the remainder going towards other charities supported by Rotary throughout the year.
