About the Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk
The Ashby Santa Fun Run and Walk was a brand new event for 2015 organised by the Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle. Following a hugely successful first 5 years, we had the battle of Covid-19 to contend with in 2020 but we countered this with an online Santa Fun Workout to replace our traditional event which raised much needed funds to help support Ashby Foodbank. We are delighted to be able to be bringing it back in it's more traditional style for 2021. It's fair to say that our last traditional event in 2019 surpassed all of the organisers expectations, attracting just short of 1500 Santa's to enter and raising over £12000 for charity, which was split between our 2019 main chosen charities, Phoenix Childrens Foundation, Enrych and Stauton Harold Sailability Trust.
The 2021 event will take place on Sunday 5th December 2021. Once again, our aim is to provide a fun, family friendly Christmas event to raise money for nominated local charities. We have decided to support 3 main charities this year as we hope to be able to continue to rely on the amazing support of the people of Ashby and surrounding areas to raise the fantastic amounts of money that we have achieved in previous years. Our 3 chosen charities are again all local or have local branches and we can confirm for the 2021 event we will support Hospice Hope, Steps and Home-Start. We look forward to working with them all to make this years event a fantastic spectacle and to raise some much needed funds for all! The main point to stress is that this event is a fun run AND walk and is therefore suitable for all ages and levels of ability. We are hoping to create a fun community event for all of the family and not a race so race numbers will not be issued or times recorded.
The event will involve all entrants dressing up in Christmas fancy dress and then running or walking around the pre-defined course. One major change about this years event is that we are asking people to provide their own Christmas fancy dress rather than us providing a Santa suit as part of the entry fee. We've taken this decision for environmental reasons which whilst enabling the event to look pretty amazing with the sight of 1450 Santa's running around Ashby, the organising team decided that it is very wasteful to have these suits which are shipped in from across the globe to be worn once and then go to landfill. We have investigated recycling but the material wasn't able to be recycled. Therefore this year we're reducing the entrance fee and asking people to come dressed in their own Christmas fancy dress to help us turn Ashby fully festive! You can opt for something low key such as a Christmas jumper through to Santa suits, reindeer suits, wacky colourful suits to match our compere or whatever you like, just make it festive! We'll have some spot prizes for the childrens fancy dress also! We do have a small stock of Santa suits available for £5 and we'll be selling these off on our stall in Market Street in the lead up to Christmas. The course will be over a distance of 3km and will be around the town of Ashby de la Zouch, starting on the Bath Grounds at 11:00 am. The route followed will be relatively flat and suitable for children and pushchairs/buggies although please bear in mind that it may be a little bumpy in places. A map of the route is available on this website. We will also be providing a fun warm up before the fun run starts! Entrants should arrive on the Bath Grounds by 10:45 for the fun warm up before the event officially starts at 11:00.
Entry in advance of the day is recommended to guarantee a place as we can only 1500 entrants to avoid bottlenecks and overcrowding so once all places are sold then we will close entries even if it's before the official closing date. The easiest way to enter is by completing the form on this website and paying through PayPal via a debit or credit card of your choice. Once this simple form is completed and submitted along with payment, you will be sent an email confirmation of your entry to the event followed later by details such as where to pick your entry number up from, arrival time and instructions for the day. A paper entry form is also available on the website with payment able to be submitted by cheque, however an email address is required to enable us to contact you with joining instructions and confirmation of entry. Entry will open on Novemner 1st, subject to any further Covid restrictions enforced by the Government.
Entry to this event is being standardised for bothe children and adults at just £6 per person. The entry fee includes your entry number, chocolate bar for the kids and a medal upon completion of the fun run and walk. Profits from this event will be split with the majority going to our 3 main supported charities with the remainder going towards other charities supported by Rotary throughout the year.
